WELCOME
Welcome to Joshua Smith Racing, home to Honda Cadet racer Joshua Smith affectionately known as ‘Bomber’ at Red Lodge where he started his karting career at the age of 8.
It was the Summer of 2017 when Joshua first stepped into a racing kart under the watchful eye of Mick ‘Tadpole’ French and his team at the Young Starz Karting Club. It was Mick who nicknamed Joshua ‘Bomber’ and by that spring Joshua had passed through the club training to Grade 1 which meant he was able to join the Young Starz Championship and start racing competitively at Red Lodge.
Christmas each year became a karting theme and for Christmas 2017 Joshua received a Driver Development Package present for Rye House which he won and was awarded a ticket to join the Rye House Drivers Championship. Joshua raced in the 2018 and 2019 Drivers Championships where he finished 2nd and 3rd, but his proudest moment was being crowned Rye House Driver of the Year 2019 by Sam Green at the Rye House Award Ceremony.
RACING…SO FAR
Coming to the end of his corporate karting career in the summer of 2019 Joshua passed his ARKS (Association of Racing Kart School) after getting his first Honda Cadet kart for his 10th Birthday. Joshua started to prepare for MSA racing by joining Club 2000, another Kart Club run by Mick French at Red Lodge Karting.
Owning your own kart meant Dad could not just turn up and watch the racing, there was now race “spannering” to be done to prepare the kart for each race and this was something that Dad knew nothing about so Joshua joined the RSR Team managed by Rob Sore.
With the support of the RSR coaching programme, led by Rob and his two daughters Kath and Steph, by his 11th birthday Joshua was well on his way to winning the Club 2000 Championship after smashing the Honda Cadet track record at Red Lodge in the Summer of 2020…TWICE!!!
With Dad’s new “spannering” skills and the help of Rob Sore, Joshua ventured out into the World of MSA racing supported by Team RSR at Hunts Kart Racing Club (HKRC) where he finished second in the Championship and with Kath Sore’s help at Shenington Kart Club (SKRC) he finished 5th in the Championship.
Josh is now looking forwards to 2021 and enjoying being back on track and venturing onto more tracks under the watchful eye of Jan Herbert from Project One East Anglia and the never ending support from Kath Sore from Team RSR, and Dad of course!
FUTURE STARS
Due to lockdown and Covid-19, 2020 wasn’t the best year to be starting a karting career but the highlight for Joshua was winning the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) F1 Future Stars competition and starting the Formula 1 British Grand Prix (albeit virtually).
